Dobie Chromebook Fee policy:

At Dobie Middle School, we understand that accidents such as drops, damages, and losses can occur with student devices. To alleviate the financial burden of Chromebook repairs, we have introduced a device care payment plan. Our goal is to encourage students to take good care of their Chromebooks to ensure they remain functional throughout middle school and high school. Below is an overview of the Chromebook process at Dobie.


Chromebook process at Dobie Middle School: 

  1. New or returning students must complete a  Google Form. If the form is not completed by the student, their counselor will assist them while they are getting their schedule
  2. Student is then provided a device on B DAYS 5th and 6th period
    1. If student device has manufacture defect on the laptop, student can return it at no cost.
    2. If Student Charger does not function, it can be swapped with working or refurbished charger at no cost.

Q: What happens if my student loses or damages their laptop?

If lost, the following will happen:

  • The student must report the device as lost to the Device Manager.
  • The student will be advised to search for the device for 24 hours.
  • If the device is not located, the Device Manager will lock the device.
  • If the device has not been signed in or returned, the student will receive a replacement device at no charge. This process typically takes 24-48 hours, depending on the investigation turnaround.

If Damaged the following will happen : 

  • The student must report the damages to the Device Manager.
  • If damages occurred due to an incident or bullying students are advise to let an Assistant Principal know.
  • The student or their parent/guardian will be responsible for the associated Chromebook fee, unless an investigation with Assistant Principal confirms student is not at fault.

Chromebook FaQ:

Q: Who gets a device or laptop?
A: All students in 3rd through 12th grade are assigned a Chromebook for daily use. At the time of initial assignment, each student receives a charger.

Q: My student is transferring within AISD do I need to return the laptop?
A: As students move between AISD campuses and move up in grades, their device will go with them.

Q: Can my student take the device home?
A: These devices will move with the student between home and the campus.
 

Q: What brand is the device, and what kind of charger does it use?

A: Students in 3rd-12th grade may have any of the following devices:

  • Lenovo Chromebooks

  • Dell Chromebooks

The majority of devices in these grades are touchscreen, convertible devices. All devices use a USB-C charger.

Q: Can my student opt out of getting a device?

A: At this time, there is not a way for families to opt-out of using a district device. During enrollment, parents acknowledge that their students will use a district device, according to the Acceptable Use Policy.

  • A guardian has the option to provide a personal device for their student to use instead of an AISD device. Due to liability issues, AISD employees may not set up or troubleshoot personal devices.
