Dobie Middle School Bands
We offer three band classes at Dobie Middle School:
Beginning Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. After School Programs: Drumline
Beginning Band
Beginning band is the first opportunity students have to join our program. No prior musical experience is needed. We teach our students how to play an instrument and everything they need to know about the fundamentals of music. The beginning band is composed of mostly 6th grade students who are learning to play an instrument for the first time. Beginning band classes meet every other day in like-instrument classes. There will occasionally be after school rehearsals to prepare for concerts. Students will perform together as one group/band at our annual Dobie Band Winter and Spring concerts.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is made up of 7/8th graders and serves as our intermediate band. They meet every other day as a full band. Students are required to attend one sectional per week to help them learn their music and to work on fundamentals. The Symphonic Band performs at the Dobie Winter Concert, Pre-UIL Contest, and Spring concert. The Symphonic Band works hard on refining fundamentals. Students are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest in the Spring. All students are encouraged to take private lessons.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is made up of 7/8th graders and is the top performing group at Dobie. They meet every other day as a full band. Students are required to attend one sectional per week to help them learn their music and to work on fundamentals. The Wind Ensemble performs at our annual Dobie Winter and Spring concert and attends UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest as well as an additional Pre-UIL concert in the Spring. Students are highly encouraged to participate in All Region tryouts in November and required to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Contest in the Spring. All students are encouraged to take private lessons.
Roadrunner Drumline
Our Dobie Drumline meets after school once a week (schedule for 24025 TBD), and occasionally during advisory. We have a group of 15 dedicated musicians who are constantly called upon to perform for sporting events, pep-rallies, assemblies, community events, elementary visits, and more. This elite group of musicians is hand picked by our directors based upon musical aptitude, attitude, behavioral record, attendance and grades.
